Fish are the primary food consumed by humans from the aquatic system and their consumption may pose a threat to human health due to the accumulation of heavy metals in them, based on their concentrations. This study aimed to measure the accumulation of heavy metals (lead, cadmium, zinc and iron in the muscle tissue of Liza abu and Barbus sharpeyi fish, which are among the most consumed fish by citizens. Samples were collected from the public market in Dhi Qar Governorate and an atomic absorption device was used to estimate the concentration of these elements.
